Hispanic Heritage Month events at Georgia Tech celebrate and recognize the economic, scientific, cultural, and social contributions of Hispanics and Latinos in the United States and beyond. The Office of Hispanic Initiatives coordinates efforts with several Institute units, student organizations, and programs in organizing the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration from mid-September to mid-October.

2023 Hispanic Heritage Month Events

 

Mini World Cup 

Friday, September 15, 11:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.  
Roe Stamps Fields, next to the CRC 

Students will display their commitment to teamwork and love for soccer by participating in this friendly competition. Teams will represent 12 different countries. First- and second-place teams will receive a trophy and medals. Hosted by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (GT-SHPE) with the support of the Office of Hispanic Initiatives (OHI). 



Direct to Discovery Reading with a Researcher: Hispanic Heritage Month

Join STEM@GTRI, the Georgia Tech Office of Hispanic Initiatives, and the Georgia Tech Library for a special Direct to Discovery interaction focused on celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with "STEM Storytime". This fun, virtual guest-reader session is free and will feature Georgia Tech faculty members reading a Spanish-language storybook to K-5 students, discussing their Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers, and answering students’ questions. 



Lecture and Performance by Spaniard Jazz Saxophonist Daniel Juarez

Professional jazz saxophonist Daniel Juarez, based in Madrid, will provide a lecture on composition from a comparative perspective, which will be illustrated by musical performance. No registration is required but seating is limited and will be provided on a first-come-first-served basis. Co-sponsored by the School of Music, School of Modern Languages, Atlanta Global Studies Center (AGSC), and Office of Hispanic Initiatives (OHI).

Hispanic/Latinx Trivia Night

Join the Latino Organization of Graduate Students (LOGRAS), School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), and Office of Hispanic Initiatives (OHI) for their 2nd annual Hispanic Heritage Month Trivia Night. This fun event will demonstrate the diversity of Hispanic and Latin cultures with questions about food, art, science, and history of many Hispanic/Latin countries. Come with a team of up to 4 or find a team at the event. Food and refreshments will be provided, and prizes are up for grabs! 



Blue Beetle Movie Discussion

GTRI’s IDENTIFY@GTRI and Georgia Tech's Hispanics or Latinos and Allies (HOLA) Employee Resource Groups invite you to an online discussion of the movie touted as the first solo film for a Latino superhero, Blue Beetle. HOLA chair and C21U communications program manager Yelena M. Rivera-Vale and Dr. Juan Carlos Rodríguez, associate professor of Spanish and the Atlanta Global Studies Center co-director, will guide the conversation.
